Succulents: Purple Aeoniums in the Winter!

Winter gardens need not be dull, and my purple aeoniums are proof of that! The deep purple bursts of the aeoniuIMG_2935m rosettes are simply spectacular and are lovely gems throughout the year. This now tree-like plant started out in an outdoor container, but has beautifully taken to the garden soil.

I love this particular succulent so much that I can totally envision having a small garden (forest?!) of just this plant! When a rosette becomes too heavy, it and its stem sometimes break off, providing a natural cutting. I’ve had a few of these cuttings sitting peacefully in outdoor containers for a few years now and when ready, I’ll clear out room for the “new” aeoniums.

Very low maintenance – the light rain in the area recently was more than enough to keep this beauty pleased. A deep purple garden? Yes!

  1. I love aeoniums but in Belgium we have frost in Winter so I have to take them inside, they don’t like it very much but they survive. How I whish I could live in a country where it never freezes !!!!

  2. These are really beautiful. I killed mine. I loved it so much too, maybe too much so!!! Congrats on having them thrive!
