Chinese Flame Tree: Flowers and Lanterns

Every year around this time, the two Chinese flame trees on my parkway are covered with yellow flowers, which are now transforming into salmon-pink paper lanterns. The blending of these beautiful colors and lovely shapes is mesmerizing!

I snapped this photo about an hour ago – just in time, before the summer light faded out!

These trees are less than 10 years old. These were actually replacement trees. The previous ones had roots that damaged my sidewalk.

Happily, my city was kind enough to ask me if I wanted any replacement trees (yes!) and gave me a list of possibilities. Little did I know that years later, I would reap such benefits of this decision. My house is the only one on the street that provides shade for parked cars in the summer! Form and function: this tree has it all!
