Yard Work, After Work!

After an eight-hour work day,  two-hour drive back home, I couldn’t wait to get home to take care of my yard! Seriously, I was watching the clock in my car and thought, “Maybe there will still be enough daylight left when I get home to trim two bushes in the front yard.” I threw my stuff in the house and busted out the ladder and the hedge trimmer. I was very pleased with the results and it took me less than 30 minutes. A great stress reliever, terrific exercise, and a lovely yard to boot!

Many times, I (and other gardeners) have felt overwhelmed by what seems to be an enormous undertaking of  routine, ongoing garden and yard maintenance. You don’t have to do everything each time you do garden and yard maintenance. It’s a great victory when you can, but realistically, getting just some of the yard work done is all you need to feel satisfied for the week. This is especially true if you do all of the garden and yard maintenance yourself, like I do.

For example, this past Saturday, I mowed the lawn and deadheaded some roses. Today, I trimmed two bushes. Tomorrow, I will spray the weeds starting to grow through the sidewalk cracks.  Stealing ten minutes here, 30 minutes there, I find the activity of garden and yard maintenance much more enjoyable. If I am not able to do one activity one weekend, I just do it the following weekend – no big deal. Following this loose schedule, I am able to get a very pleasing result without the frustration of losing a whole day (or more) on just these activities.

My goal always is to come home to a lovely green space when I come home, and I am very pleased and fortunate to say that I do!
