I purchased four new bare root rose plants today, from the clearance bin at Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) – 75% off! I just planted them. This is the first time I have ever purchased tree roses. The tree roses are: (1) Sunny Delight, a beautiful yellow, hybrid tea (http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.37493), and (2) Front Page, a red blend, hybrid tea (http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.32270). Also known as rose standards, tree roses present a nice opportunity to liven up my collection of shrub roses.
I also purchased two Camelot roses, orange-pink grandiflora roses (http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.928). These are shrub roses and will grow to a height of about 4 feet.
I have stationed the Front Page tree rose next to my white iceberg rose, and the Sunny Delight tree rose on the opposite end of the Front Page tree rose, like sentries guarding the gates of my renewed garden!
SHOPPING TIP: I often go to nurseries and the garden section of home improvement stores toward the end of spring because they place the last of their roses and other plants on clearance.
