Dill Weed: New Leaves!

The dill weed plants that I transplanted nearly a month ago have successfully “taken” to my garden and are showing  new leaves!

The new dill weed leaves are actually in 2 colors, green and a very striking and surprising coral-wine color. Exquisite loveliness!

Truth be told, I have been very concerned about the transplantation of these plants. The original owner of the plants dug them out and lay them flat outside in the sun for several hours before I knew that they were free for the asking.

The leaves of these plants, at the time of transplantation, were still green but eventually dried out into a brown color, much to my dismay. I have been watering them every other day.

Looking at the coral-wine color of some of these leaves tonight, I touched them to be sure that they are new, feeling for the telltale moisture of new leaves. They are confirmed new, as are the green leaves.

I did not know that new leaves on dill weed come in 2 colors. I always thought new and mature leaves would be only green. Such a wonderful surprise. It’s always good to learn something new about our garden inhabitants!
