Hooded Oriole

Bird on a wire! The only other times that I have spotted a hooded oriole was in Arizona. I had to do a double take this morning when I looked out my window into my backyard and saw a male hooded oriole perched on a telephone wire above my backyard. Hooded orioles are typically a summer visitor in my area, but I guess it had to make its presence known in the spring. Some things just can’t wait! Sometimes the best birding locations are literally just in your own backyard!

Its luscious yellow color is striking, it’s true, but click on the image for a more detailed view: check out its prominent white wing bars and long bill. It was a wonderful surprise to start my day!
