Azaleas and African Irises!

Check out the latest additions to my backyard garden! I purchased an unexpected 7 azalea plants and 2 African iris (aka fornight lily and morea iris) plants today.

This was unexpected because I decided to take a chance and go to Lowe’s and check out the clearance rack in the garden department and there they were, perfectly healthy, but not currently flowering, plants. With tax, this plant bounty cost just under $22. Wow!

The azalea varieties that I have are: (1) Prize Azalea – 4 of these, (2) Glory of Sunninghill Azalea, (3) Formosa Azalea, and (4) Azalea “Nuccio’s Happy Days”. I very much look forward to when these shrubs flower!

I already have a perfect place for these most welcome plants, in a location with just the right amount of shade and sun. I will relocate a few plants so that everyone can peacefully co-exist. What a lovely spring suprise!

CONSUMER ALERT UPDATE:  All parts of azaleas are highly toxic if ingested.  More information on toxic plants can be found here:

  1. Azaleas are gorgeous! In north Florida they are everywhere, but hard to grow in south Florida…sadly! You are right to get them into a bit of shade, if you can! Best wishes with your new beauties!!!

    • Hi, Julie,
Many thanks for sending the positive vibes! This is the first time I’ve ever grown azaleas so am very excited with taking care of these lovely plants for years to come (nature willing)! Have a great week!
