Chinese Flame Tree, Aflame!

It may be autumn, but don’t tell that to my Chinese flame tree. It’s all aflame with exquisitely beautiful paper lanterns! IMG_1885Many of the yellow flowers that preceded these paper lanterns have been replaced by these lanterns, though in my other Chinese flame tree, it has a bit more yellow flowers than lanterns, so a second round of lanterns will become evident in the next few weeks. When the lanterns first appear, they are smaller and a dark orange-red in color. The lanterns are gorgeous then also, but about a few weeks later, they enlarge and the color becomes more pale, transforming into a salmon or pink-orange color.
