Kalanchoe Container Garden!

It’s hard to believe but my kalanchoe (aka Kalanchoe blossfeldiana and Christmas kalanchoe) container garden is looking mighty fine at the beginning of autumn – and it only started with two plants I bought a few years ago. Look at them now! I can’t wait until Christmas, when the flowers should be making their appearance.

I ended up with multiple plants because pieces of the plant would break off and I would place these broken pieces back into their “parent” container, directly into the watered potting soil, and they became their own independent plants – straightforward propagation of kalanchoes! This shade-loving succulent has been a very low maintenance addition to my garden.

In the front and center container you’ll also see a piece of one of my epidendrum orchids (aka crucifix orchid, which broke off of its parent and has become its own independent plant – this is straightforward propagation of epidendrum orchids!

These containers are residing in front of my Japanese aucuba. My front yard shade garden will soon be awash with autumn color!

CONSUMER ALERT UPDATE: Japanese aucuba has been reported to be poisonous, though the level of toxicity has been reported to be minor.

  1. Oh…wow…you are reminding me that my two plants will be blooming at Christmas also! I can’t wait now! I have a lovely pink bloomer and a white! I can’t believe I have kept them alive all year (I received them last Christmas)!
