Painted Lady Scarlet Runner Bean

Painted lady runner bean, flowers close upPainted lady runner bean, regular distanceAlso known as Phaseolus coccineus, this productive bean plant produces attractive deep orange-red flowers, which I hope that hummingbirds will find attractive. The beans are tasty also! On the photo to the left, the tomato cage is actually not in any container. Early in the year, I let it lean against the wall until I needed it. Well, when I actually did need it, I found that there was an amusing tug-of-war going on between the painted lady scarlet runner bean plant and my grape plant. The cage is staying where it is! The tendrils of both plants are wrapping around and gripping tightly to the cage wire!
