Tree Bark Lawn Looking Good!

Tree bark lawn looking goodAlthough I’ve only had it for about three weeks, I’m really loving my tree bark lawn! The brown and yellow colors of the shredded bark (specifically, the product is pathway bark) has been a nice match for the bold, bright colors of my flower garden. I’m also considering adding a tree bark lawn to another section of my backyard, which is still in the “design” phase, just bare soil for now.

I’m designing and installing my backyard myself, which is very labor intensive but I highly recommend it! You’ll get great exercise, sunshine and fresh air, and a few stories to tell your visitors! Because I tend to be a do-it-yourselfer in the garden, I like very much to look for options that are aesthetically pleasing, but not too heavy, priced reasonably, and will be low maintenance – not so easy to do in these economic times!

SHOPPING TIP: I started the process years ago by buying gardening books that were on sale, to create my own modest gardening reference library. The books were actually a few years old, but the advice was timeless. I picked books that had a lot of pictures of which plants go together, what some “finished” yards look like, and one even has garden plans. I also saved gardening magazines from a few years back and re-reading them – information here, too, is timeless. From these things, and talking a lot with the folks that work in my area nurseries, I get ideas to design a yard that’s my own. It may seem like a hassle, but if you go in with a plan about what your garden will look like, that will save you a lot of time, money, and labor!
