Silverado Rose in My Autumn Garden

Certainly there are many pink-colored roses, but the Silverado rose has a color that echoes the Spring season to me, so vibrant and also very fragrant, a truly wonderful member of my backyard garden, especially in the autumn and winter months!

Rose Hips

My Sunblest rose is producing an impressive amount of rose hips! Here is one example. I’m hopeful that it will ripen into a shade of red or orange because I’m curious about using them in tea and possibly making jam (if I have enough for the latter, that is!).  An added benefit is that rose hips are [...]

I Support Roses!

Two canes of my Sunblest Rose plant have grown very tall, very quickly. It’s been windy here for the past few days also, so to reduce the likelihood of  canes snapping in half from the frequent swaying, I tied each tall cane to a bamboo support, using green plastic tape. It just takes a few careful minutes to [...]

Radiant Perfume Rose

Before planting my fruit tree saplings, I will be planting a bare root rose: the Radiant Perfume rose. No flowers on it, yet (!), but it has evidence of new, healthy green sprouts. This hybrid tea is supposed to be very fragrant and yellow, with long stems.
Until last year, I’ve always left my rose flowers on the [...]

Roses: Blue Moon and Christian Dior

What a lovely way to brighten up a winter day! Two of my more recent rose acquisitions, rescued from the bargain bin: (1) Blue Moon, a gorgeous mauve-colored hybrid tea, and (2) Christian Dior, a stunning red hybrid tea. I’d planted them several months ago, with high hopes that they would “take.” I’m so happy [...]

Yves Piaget Rose in My Autumn Garden

Oh, Yves Piaget, how you do it? This stunner -a hybrid tea rose, also known as a “romantica” rose, is a powerful combination of beauty, fragrance, and dependability. In recent weeks, more flower buds have emerged and flowers have “slowly” exploded, if that’s possible! It’s one of the earliest roses in my garden to re-emerge (after the first blooming, [...]

Four New Roses and Fuchsia Plant!

I just returned from a very successful trip from Lowe’s! I went to their gardening clearance rack and found four new rose plants, pictured from left to right: (1) an unknown dark pink, very fragrant hybrid tea, (2) Spartan floribunda – orange red rose, (3) Just Joey hybrid tea – orange rose, and (4) Proud [...]

Sunblest Rosebuds!

I took this photo within the half-hour. The sunlight cast on this plant make this look like a golden triangle of Sunblest rosebuds! I must say that this rose has certainly exceeded my expectations. I’ve deadheaded all of my rose plants, but this one alone, as of this date, remains stunningly prolific. There are at least 8 [...]

Perfect Moment Rose

Actually, as shown in the photo, there are several perfect moments – and we can certainly use more of those these days! The milky white stains on the leaves are no worry – a result of a little splash from the work I’m having done on my house – this plant is totally healthy! This breathtaking [...]

Roses in the Springtime

I love roses, though in my early days, was concerned about their maintenance. In particular, I’d always hold my breath after pruning them, just hoping that this time, I didn’t deliver a fatal cut. But they’ve soldiered on, thriving and rewarding these efforts with reliable and gorgeous flowers. I took these photos earlier this afternoon. Clockwise, [...]
