This certainly adds warm sunshine to any winter day! Rain is expected in my area tonight, but not before I snapped this photo of flower stalks blooming in one of my mother of pearl or ghost plants (also known as Graptopetalum paraguayense). This is a very striking and dramatic display – click on the photo [...]

Indeed, it’s true! I was doing a little bit of weeding this morning and found that a very late-growing tomato plant (likely cherry tomato) is producing a few tomatoes! Click on the photo and look at the top center to get a better view of the lovely green fruits!
As reported in my posts earlier in [...]

I love easy-to-make container gardens, and one of the easiest is one of my succulent container gardens. Populated by cuttings and broken plant pieces from various gardening mishaps (!), this container garden has thrived and is one happy family consisting of the following, from left to right: (1) plush plant, also known as Echeveria harmsii [...]

Also known as Echeveria harmsii, this succulent, native of Mexico, is a beautiful addition to any garden. Its leaves and bright orange flowers are covered in a velvety soft layer, which makes this plant totally plush…and lush! It’s actually in the same container as my mother of pearl or ghost plant (also known as Graptopetalum paraguayense), whose leaves [...]

At some point last week, a piece of mother of pearl or ghost plant broke off! It landed in the pot it was growing in, amidst its many fellow rosettes, so I didn’t see it until Sunday. I was quite surprised at what I saw. This sturdy plant was already showing roots! In other words, it grew [...]

The purple aeonium, or Aeonium arboreum ‘Atropurpureum,’ is a striking succulent, native to the Canary Islands. Like most succulents, it’s very low maintenance, watering once or twice a week, in a sunny place. I grow them in containers. The one pictured on the left is actually a “container mate” to my beautiful mother of pearl [...]

This is the same plant that is growing next to my acorn squash (see May 26 post)! This is my best guess for this plant, since I bought it at the 99 Cents Only Store without a label (SHOPPING TIP: this is a good place to shop for very young plants without breaking the bank). [...]
