Coppertone Loquat Blue Flowers!

Coppertone loquat flowersWhat an amazing surprise! In my previous post on this tree, I’d mentioned that the flowers-to-be appeared pink – they had stayed nicely bundled up, hiding their “secret” inside. Lo and behold, tonight was the big reveal: After I’d finished watering my plants this evening, I saw that the flowers are a very glamorous pale lilac blue color. I love when mistakes like this happen! This also makes me wonder if have a true coppertone loquat, or other variety. I’ll have to investigate further!

CONSUMER ALERT UPDATE: Reports are that the seed of the loquat is highly poisonous  if ingested. More information on toxic plants can be found here: http://www.plantsciences.ucdavis.edu/ce/king/poisplant/tox-com.htm

  1. These are plumbago flowers, not loquat; we used them as fashion flowers when I was a kid because they will stick to clothing

    • Thank you for your note. The plant was given to me as a gift with a loquat label, but I guess one can never really be sure these days. It did show signs of fruiting, but not fully, and sadly, expired after that. Many thanks for visiting my blog!
