This was given to me as a gift. The coppertone loquat is also known as Eriobotrya deflexa ‘Coppertone.’ My family has a loquat tree, and the fruits of that specimen (unknown) ranged from sour to sweet-sour, getting sweeter when more ripe. This tree is supposed to grow to at least 7 feet tall. Pictured are the small pink flowers that are emerging. I’m currently keeping it in the 5-gallon container it came in. It’ll be awhile before fruits, though! “Coppertone” refers to the color of its new foliage.
CONSUMER ALERT UPDATE: Reports are that the seed of the loquat is highly poisonous if ingested. More information on toxic plants can be found here: http://www.plantsciences.ucdavis.edu/ce/king/poisplant/tox-com.htm
