I’ve been working on designing and installing my backyard garden for the past 2 years. When I first moved into my house 10 years ago, my backyard was over-run with weeds and trees that sprouted from seeds contained in bird droppings. I felt a bit overwhelmed as a first-time homeowner who inherited the backyard of the previous owner. Still, I felt that I wanted to do everything I could to give the backyard a complete makeover. After I hired able hands to remove the previous greenery, it took me another 1-1/2 years to just design the backyard that would not break the bank, but something that I could install myself. I opted for an informal rose garden, plus lavender and annuals that I’d have fun replacing over the years. Here was the initial result, back in 2006. I thought this would be an interesting diptych.
